Disabled Lifters

Powerlifting is not just for the able bodied individual, it is for every class, age group, race and ability. Powerlifting Australia and the IPF criteria allow for equal opportunity access to the Bench Press, although the lift itself must be performed according to standard rules. Athletes with a disability are thus welcome to compete in the open categories at PA events, be they wheelchair, amputee, special Olympian, transplant or deaf. PA also supports the work of the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) in their conduct of events for Paralympic competitors and the APC and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) offer the pathway through to the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.

Disabled bench presser, Paul Tesoriero, competes regularly in PA events along with APC events. He is aiming to compete in major games such as the Paralympics.
